Metal Awnings

GPS Specialty Construction is a leading manufacturer architectural metal awnings, canopies, louver shades installed on commercial and residential properties throughout cities of Northern California. Like all awnings manufactured by GPS, our metal awnings provide significant shade over windows and doors thereby reducing summer air conditioning bills.

In the winter these awnings provide a sanctuary from heavy winter storms and provide dry entrances to homes and businesses. When used in a residential setting these awnings like our fabric awnings will protect wood framed windows and wooden doors from harsh weather and the beating sun.

The GPS metal awning is not to be confused with the pre-fabricated sheet metal and aluminum awnings found at home improvement centers. All of GPS's commercial and residential metal awnings, and louver shades are custom manufactured at GPS's workshop located at Longview and Interstate 80 in the north part of Sacramento County using either a steel or aluminum tubular steel framework.

The metal covering can take many forms such as the corrugated steel metal awnings at Malabar Restaurant in Natomas, or the architectural sheet metal used on WalMart Sacramento, or the copper used on BevMo in Folsom. GPS has also uses wire grids, aluminum panels, perforated sheet metal and even glass as a coverings for their metal frames that make up the metal awnings facet of this modern awning company.

Metal Louvers are becoming very popular with both architects and building owners alike. These metal structures are designed to deflect the suns rays during the hottest times of the day. These systems can be either horizontal or in a pitched configuration such as those at the Palladio Shopping Center in Folsom California.

In both of these projects GPS Specialty Construction started out with a set of architectural drawings and specifications. We then proceeded to have our drafting department make up working shop drawings which were sent to our Metal Shop. In the metal shop the craftsmen cut the metal and welded the frames together. Oftentimes, the finished frames are sent to the jobsite for painting or the frames will be sent to a powder coat company for a powder coat finish. Typically the metal awnings are lifted into place by either a crane or a commercial "reach lift" where they are permanently fastened to the building.

Both of GPS's commercial and residential metal awnings offer the customer: shade that produces measurable reductions in energy use, great designs that give the property lasting beauty and quality craftsmanship that insures that the product will be there for decades to come.
